The Marina of Estepona hosts a Marine Garbage Awareness Workshop

The Clean Landscape Association makes the next 26 July, at the Marina of Estepona, awareness-raising activity to raise awareness of the dumping of waste into the sea.

The problem of dumping waste into the sea is a complication that has been increasing over the years. Like this, Marina de Estepona is committed to this problem and will host a Marine Garbage Awareness workshop, aimed at ending this inconvenience on our shores.

The workshop will be developed by the Clean Landscape Association, the next 26 July at the Marina of Estepona, at the 12:00 P.m. in the Navigaport Hall of the Control Tower. This event is integrated into the Awareness Project for Users and Responsible for Fishing and Sports Ports, which carries out EU-funded Clean Landscape FEMP and the Biodiversity Foundation.

In Spain, there are more than 9.000 inshore fishing boats and around 230.000 pleasure boats. So, it is important to raise awareness among the users and fishermen of sports boats to carry out proper waste management.

The script of the Marine Garbage Awareness workshop will be next:

  • Animation video on marine litter.
  • What are marine litter.
  • Presentation of survey results to marina users conducted by Clean Landscape, about habits with the waste generated.
  • How to manage the waste generated by users when they go sailing and those generated by the boat itself.
  • Participation of attendees, Exchange of tips...

According to Manuel Raigón, Director General of Mediterranean Marinas, "our marinas are aware and committed to the problem of dumping waste into the sea". So much so that other activities have already been carried out to try to end this complication. The past 8 June, under the context of Marina Day, a seabed cleanup was carried out at the Marina of Estepona. Following this same line, more seabed cleanups will be carried out in the Port of the Duchess and in the Marina of the East. This fact is corroborated by international agencies, because since the year 1994 Mediterranean Marinas holds Blue Flag award for quality of facilities and environmental care.
