The Marina of Estepona hosts a Marine Garbage Awareness Workshop

The Clean Landscape Association makes the next 26 July, in the Puerto Deportivo de Estepona, an awareness-raising activity to raise awareness about the dumping of waste at sea.

The problem of dumping waste into the sea is a complication that has been increasing over the years. Like this, Marina de Estepona is committed to this problem and will host a workshop on Marine Litter Awareness, aimed at ending this inconvenience on our coasts.

The workshop will be developed by the Clean Landscape Association, the next 26 July at the Marina of Estepona, at the 12:00 P.m.. in the Navigaport Room of the Control Tower. This event is integrated within the Project Awareness to Users and Managers of Fishing and Sports Ports, which carries out Clean Landscape financed with European funds FEMP and the Biodiversity Foundation.

In Spain, there are more than 9.000 inshore fishing boats and around 230.000 pleasure boats. So, it is important to raise awareness among the users and fishermen of sports boats to carry out proper waste management.

The script of the Marine Litter Awareness workshop will be as follows:

  • Animation video about marine litter.
  • What are marine litters.
  • Presentation of the results of the survey of users of marinas carried out by Paisaje Limpio, about habits with the waste generated.
  • How to manage the waste generated by users when they go sailing and those generated by the boat itself.
  • Participation of attendees, exchange of advice...

According to Manuel Raigón, general director of Marinas of the Mediterranean, "our marinas are aware of and committed to the problem of dumping waste at sea". So much so that other activities have already been carried out to try to put an end to this complication.. The past 8 June, under the context of Marina Day, a seabed cleaning was carried out in the Marina of Estepona. Following this same line, more seabed cleanups will be carried out soon in the Puerto de la Duquesa and in the Puerto Marina del Este. This fact is corroborated by international organizations, since the year 1994 Marinas del Mediterráneo maintains the Blue Flag award for the quality of facilities and environmental care.
