Presentation of the Atlas of the Martitimas meadows
The past 17 March at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, the presentation of this compilation of Marine Maps of our coasts was celebrated.
The work in which they have participated 84 Experts from all Coastal Communities and members of Institutions and Administrators, collects works done in the last 40 years for the conservation of these valuable marine habitats, with enormous socio-economic and cultural value, in addition to its exceptional ecological value.
These habitats are made up of marine plants called angiosperms., adapted to live completely submerged in the sea, forming the well-known seagrass meadows.
They occupy in Spain a total of 1.618,69 km2, the most abundant being the Posidonia Oceanica and is found in the Mediterranean, where it is known as Algares.
This document aims to become a reference of help for the future preservation of these maritime meadows.
